PA Citizens' Participation with Penn State Through Penn State Public Broadcasting and Cooperative Extension

Penn State provides essential services, information and support to more than two million households in Pennsylvania each year, accounting for approximately one of every two households in the Commonwealth. Outreach programs include participants from all 67 counties, all 50 states, and 114 countries on six continents.

Cooperative Extension(1) serves one million people each year, and extends its impact through the work of 15,000 volunteers.

Penn State Public Broadcasting’s television reach includes:

  • Broadcast/cable: 550,000 households, or nearly 1 million residents, in central Pennsylvania;
  • Video on Demand: 2.4 million Pennsylvania households served by Comcast;
  • Big Ten Network: 90 million subscribers nationwide.

(1) Cooperative Extension reflects Penn State’s land-grant mission regarding(for example) water, soil and forest resources, nutrition, diet and health; 4-H programs; agriculture and the food industry. Data are based on the numbers of clients who participate in at least one Extension education program.
