1.4 Encourage Better Advising and Student Ownership of Education

Year 1: 2009-2010

The First-year Testing, Consulting, and Advising Program (FTCAP) has been enhanced with messages to students about taking ownership for their education, and clarifying that education is comprised of both in-class and out-of-class learning. The University Advising Council recommended to the Administrative Council on Undergraduate Education (ACUE) the adoption of a series of templates to contain advising information for students in different transitions: advanced standing, entering a major, and changing campuses. The online Early Progress Reports (EPR) was fully implemented across all colleges and campuses in fall 2009, replacing a decades-old paper-based system.

Year 2: 2010-2011

There has been a steady increase in the use of the online Early Progress Reports (EPR) in the two years since its implementation. The University Advising Council continues to look at additional ways to ensure that students have access to and take advantage of advising information in a timely manner.
