Priorities for Excellence: Penn State’s Strategic Plan for 2009-2010 through 2013-2014
The University Strategic Planning Council reviewed the final draft of Penn State’s strategic plan for 2009-10 through 2013-14 at their April 22, 2009, meeting. The plan identifies seven major goals, with specific strategies and actions to achieve these goals. Included in the plan is an implementation matrix, which identifies the leadership areas, fiscal impact, implementation start date, and key performance indicators for each strategy. The plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees for their approval at the May 15, 2009 meeting. For more information about the USPC and to read the draft of the strategic plan, visit /plans/.
Faculty Tenure-Flow Rates: 2008-09 Annual Report
For the past twelve years, Penn State has analyzed the rates at which its provisionally appointed faculty members achieve tenure. Of the twelve cohorts of faculty entering the tenure track since 1990, 57 percent of new entrants had received tenure by the end of their seventh year, with female and minority faculty having lower tenure rates than others. Innovation Insights: Implementing a Strategic Plan
One of the most challenging aspects of planning is implementing the plan – getting what’s on paper to come to life and achieving the goals and strategies included in the plan. The groundwork for successful implementation of a plan needs to begin when work on the plan begins, and continue through the implementation. This workshop presents ways to use continuous quality improvement as a way to achieve your goals, with a focus on the fundamentals of putting a team together, the basic concepts of quality improvement, and steps to plan and evaluate achievements.
