Team ID:

College / Administrative Unit:
Information Technology Services (ITS)
Date Started:
July 2011
Objective:

The team was tasked with developing WebLion, an on-line application to help units, staff, and students at Penn State create websites and applications.

Results:

Desired Results:

Develop WebLion and also provide documentation for the application.

Actual Results:

The team found it was dealing with multiple and constantly shifting “top” priorities in the application development. There was also a lack of transparency in the work and documentation. To address this they adopted Agile. As a result, work was prioritized sensibly, and there was a clear idea of what they should work on at any given time. All work and documentation was readily transparent to everyone in the team. The team was much more organized and much more collaborative. Their coding practices - and the quality of their code - were much improved. The team considered themselves happier and much more productive. Additionally, though the team members are now working on other projects, they have continued using the Agile approach.
