Objective: 
To review and improve the course articulation process at Penn State.
Desired Results: 

Recommended establishing an easy communication method for academic departments and faculty to inform the Undergraduate Admissions Office of changes in transfer credit evaluations

Recommended the development of a web page that describes the transfer evaluation process and the roles of the student, Undergraduate Admissions Office and advisors in the process of admission with advanced standing

Recommended integrating the information technologies

Recommended properly training staff and advisors on their role in advising transfer students

Recommended integrating the ISIS Transfer Articulation System (TAS), the Degree Audit System and CAAIS, and make TAS accessible to Penn State students

June 2000: The following recommendations are presented in response to the five process review objectives. It should be noted that some of the recommendations respond to more than one of these objectives.

Recommendations
1. Retain the 'general credits' (GEN) designation.
2. Minimize the number of credits that are recorded as 'general credits'.
3. Establish an easy communication method for academic departments and faculty to inform the Undergraduate
Admissions Office of changes in transfer credit evaluations.
4. Develop a method to enable the unique identification of courses transferred as 'general credits'.
5. Develop a method to clarify 'general credits' as lower division, upper division, or remedial credits.
6. Evaluate all course work from accredited institutions and add all transferable course work to the Penn State
transcript.
7. Create or use former course codes to identify interdisciplinary areas to be used as course abbreviations with GEN
credits.
8. Change the weekly Offer report forwarded to colleges/campuses to look like the new credit evaluation form.
9. Reformat the "Guide for Students Offered Transfer Admission."
10. Include a Degree Audit with the Offer package to students admitted with advanced standing.
11. Develop a web page that describes the transfer evaluation process and the roles of the student, Undergraduate
Admissions Office and advisors in the process of admission with advanced standing.
12. Integrate the ISIS Transfer Articulation System (TAS), the Degree Audit System and CAAIS, and make TAS
accessible to Penn State students.
13. Provide adequate resources to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the Transfer Articulation System (TAS).
14. Provide instruction to advisors on their role in advising transfer students.
15. Create an interdisciplinary advisory committee to monitor the practices and procedures involved in the transfer
process.
16. Make TAS available some time in the future via web access to non-Penn State students.
17. Continue limiting the availability of degree audits for Penn State programs only to Penn State students and those
offered admission with advanced standing (see Recommendation 10).
